Wish of the Children

A Day of Dreams Realized: Great Plays and Myrtle Bring Joy to Children at Egmore Cancer Hospital

CHENNAI, INDIA – 12/19/2025 – In a profound testament to the power of community and compassion, Make Great Plays, in partnership with the dedicated local charity organization Myrtle, recently brought an extraordinary wave of joy and hope to the young patients at the government-run children’s cancer treatment hospital in Egmore, Chennai. This vital institution serves as a beacon of last resort for countless families across India, providing critical care to children battling cancer, many of whom arrive from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with little to no access to private healthcare.

Recognizing the immense physical, emotional, and financial burdens carried by these children and their families, Make Great Plays and Myrtle launched the deeply moving “Wish of the Children” program. The initiative began with a simple yet powerful premise: collecting a personal wish from each child currently undergoing treatment. These wishes, carefully penned or expressed by the young patients, became sacred promises that the organizations pledged to fulfill.

"Every child deserves moments of pure joy, especially when facing such immense challenges," stated, Sankar, Chief of Operations, MGP, during the program's inception. "The 'Wish of the Children' program wasn't just about giving gifts; it was about acknowledging their dreams, offering a glimmer of hope, and letting them know they are seen, loved, and supported."

The journey from wish to reality was paved by the incredible generosity of donors and supporters. Make Great Plays and Myrtle embarked on a series of dedicated fundraising efforts, sharing the stories of these brave children and their simple, heartfelt desires. The response from the community was overwhelming, demonstrating a collective spirit of empathy and solidarity. Thanks to these invaluable contributions, the program successfully raised the necessary funds to procure every single item requested in the children's "Wish of the Children" envelopes.

The culmination of these efforts was a deeply moving presentation ceremony held at the hospital. The atmosphere, often heavy with the realities of illness, was transformed by an infectious sense of excitement and anticipation. As each child received their personalized gift – be it a beloved toy, a new book, art supplies, or something else entirely – their faces lit up with an unforgettable sparkle. Parents, often worn down by endless hospital visits and anxieties, found their eyes welling up with tears of gratitude and relief, witnessing their children’s momentary escape into pure happiness.

"Seeing the genuine smiles, the sheer delight in their eyes, and the relief on their families' faces made every effort worthwhile," reflected, Williams, President, Myrtle. "These children endure so much pain and hardship. To be able to create a day filled with laughter and dreams realized, even for a few hours, is truly a privilege. It reaffirms our belief in the power of kindness and collective action."

The "Wish of the Children" program served as a powerful reminder that while medical treatment battles the disease, acts of compassion nurture the soul. Make Great Plays and Myrtle extend their deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this extraordinary day possible, proving that together, we can bring light and smiles even into the toughest of times for India's bravest young warriors.
